Hey all,
(2nd post here, )... ah hem...
I finally got my mirrors and md5sum errors sorted out, and was able to finish the min-CD install over the net onto a wiped out box.
My want is to get some color... X x o?
I've emerged worldy after checking handbook, here,USE and make.conf. But I'm not sure if I should emerge modular Xorgs 1st, or go right to Gnome or Blackbox etc.
suggestions?
Also (or?), is Gnome dependent on installing X first.
Also... Is git another form of portage? Can they exist together? |

This link has all of the information on setting up a GUI.
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/list.xml
And Gnome and all other GUI's are dependent on Xorg, someone correct me if isn't all of them though. |

thanks, Underdone
I've found the handbook... I guess I'm just jumping the gun. but its been a week to get this far. it'd be nice to get a gui up so i could take a break from all the documentation and get firefox setup and at least browse on this gentoo box. Maybe I should get a prepackaged vers. of linux to start with.
I'll read more on the gentoo gui pages to see what modular xorg is saying about portability before unemerging gnome and putting in xorg... (I HATE downloading things twice) |

Gentoo definitely isn't the easiest way to learn Linux, but you learn much much more by doing all of this by hand instead of it being preconfigured for you. Don't worry if you don't get it the first time, i think i had to install about 6 or 7 times before i got it right. |
