Nautilus tells me that it cannot find libgailutil.so.17 even though libgailutil.so.18 exists. I have recompiled nautilus and still the same thing. I have created a simlink to the .so file, but is there a better solution? One that will actually fix the problem.

Have you tried revdep-rebuild?
It does a pretty good job of finding this kind of inconsistency. Sometimes you have to "help" it emerge all the packages it finds -- sometimes there will be packages that no longer have available ebuilds of the specific version, in which case you'll need to upgrade that particular package. But still, revdep-rebuild is the command you probably need. |

fixed...revdep still complains about a few things but says it isn't a problem
nautilus works again...thx for the jolt there...I can't believe I didn't think of that |
