emerge xfree, gives error: :!:

I used another tty to confirm no such file were to be found.
Before the error I saw the "libtool.."line.The compiler (gcc/g++) was not mentioned in any
printouts.

I tried editing make.conf putting "-truetype" in USE=, with no success. I guess xfree needs truteype (?)

iI can emerge stuff like "vim" with great success. I have tried emerge sync with 12 hours intervals.
Still the same error.

Suggestions :?:
