|

I'm thinking about buying an adapter, which connects ata devices to usb port. Since I don't like throwing my money away, I'd like to be sure that the adapter both works well and is supported in Linux. I'm going to test some hard drives with it and later on plug a dvd-writer to it (I don't really mind if writing is slow).
Now I'd like to hear, which adapters are proven to work great on Linux. |

I don't think the linux kernel will see the ata drive as what is it, but rather a USB device. So as long as you have your kernel built to support those USB devices: e.g. disk, cdrom, etc. you should be fine.
This means that adapter will not interact with the kernel itself, but with the signal that comes from the usb port and translates for the ata drive to its ports. |
