nx windows client passes authentication, but then just quits

I'm trying to get freenx to work (freenx server on gentoo, freenx client 1.5 on windows).
Authentication works, but then I get a black X window for a second, and then it disappears.
It seems that on gentoo the session is created, the windows side doesn't seem to work, on the gentoo box I can see the X apps running, I just don't see them on the windows side.

Suggestions? Ideas? Anything is appreciated.
