I have a Hauppauge tv tuner card that used to work fine using the bttv driver. After upgrading to 2.6.16 it doesn't work at all. /dev/video0 does not exist and the bttv driver only outputs "bttv: driver version 0.9.16 loaded
bttv: using 8 buffers with 2080k (520 pages) each for capture" into dmesg.

Curiously, dmesg shows it as being an unknown device now, and I could have sworn it was previously recognized as a bt878.

Code:
01:0b.0 Multimedia video controller: Brooktree Corporation Unknown device 026e (rev 11)
Subsystem: Hauppauge computer works Inc. Unknown device 12eb
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 9
        Memory at e5000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=4K]
        Capabilities: [44] Vital Product Data
Capabilities: [4c] Power Management version 2

01:0b.1 Multimedia controller: Brooktree Corporation Bt878 Audio Capture (rev 11)
Subsystem: Hauppauge computer works Inc. Unknown device 12eb
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 9
        Memory at e4000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=4K]
        Capabilities: [44] Vital Product Data
Capabilities: [4c] Power Management version 2

Anybody know anything about this? How do I get it working again?[/code]

ivtv is for a different series of tuner cards, not the bt878.

Well, forget about it. I had to install it in a windows box because of time. My gentoo install has gotten to the point where it's holding me back, and, judging by my recent experiences with gentoo, that is not going to change. time to look for a different flavor of Linux. I think I'll install Debian when I get back.

Also, for those of you who have the same problem, it looks like the issue was it not showing up properly in dmesg. The bttv driver uses dmesg to know which model of card it's talking to. As the card was not recognized, bttv didn't know which card it was supposed to talk to and didn't load. That's as far as I got.

You can look here to find the right modules parameters for our bttv card and put them in /etc/modules.d/bttv
Don't forget to run "update-modules" .
