well I have finally have ran out of hardware to install gentoo on and still want to learn more. I am giving the the whole vmware stuff a try. I have been running it with windows running gentoo with no problem, but I would like to run Gentoo vmware and then create virtual machines of gentoo.
I tried this how to but ran into some problems with the start and stop init scripts. Any suggestions would really help.
I know this is still all in beta but I see many people where able to install it. Are you guys installing it just from the source without going through this whole layman install?

Here I am trying to run the config for it:
/opt/vmware/server/bin/vmware-config.pl
Making sure services for VMware Server are stopped.
/etc/vmware/init.d/vmware: line 1041: [: -: integer expression expected
* Caching service dependencies ... [ ok ]
/etc/vmware/init.d/vmware: line 947: [: -: integer expression expected
/etc/vmware/init.d/vmware: line 964: [: -: integer expression expected
* Stopping VMware services: [ ok ]
* Virtual machine monitor [ !! ]
* Bridged networking on /dev/vmnet0 [ ok ]
* Virtual ethernet [ !! ]
Unable to stop services for VMware Server
Execution aborted.
here I am trying to stop the service
/etc/init.d/vmware stop
'/etc/vmware/init.d/vmware: line 947: [: -: integer expression expected
/etc/vmware/init.d/vmware: line 964: [: -: integer expression expected
* Stopping VMware services: [ ok ]
* Virtual machine monitor [ !! ]
* Bridged networking on /dev/vmnet0 [ ok ]
* Virtual ethernet [ !! ]

well right after I posted this I found this:
[This article is now somewhat obsolete because vmware-server have been included the official portage tree. There is no need for a separate overlay. The bug reports still apply. This is an updated version of a two previous article on the subject.]
Damn web site colors couldn't see it! I will see if I can just get it to work through portage. |

/etc/vmware/init.d/vmware: line 947: [: -: integer expression expected
/etc/vmware/init.d/vmware: line 964: [: -: integer expression expected
Stopping VMware services:
Virtual machine monitor failed
Bridged networking on /dev/vmnet0 done
Virtual ethernet failed
Unable to stop services for VMware Server
Execution aborted. |

well I found out that following the how to brakes the whole vmware server. So do not follow the link. Just emerge vmware-server to get it working. |
