|
|
Hi,
I have a Radeon X700 Mobility (PCI-E) Card for my laptop. I have dri enabled and all that good jazz; however, when I run glxgears I get framerates of only about 1700. This seems horrible, especially since it is a newer card. As a side note. I can't use radeon drivers for some reason (have to use fglrx). I have read that fglrx drivers perform much worse but... Every time I try to use the radeon drivers X just goes to a blank screen.
Any hints on fixing either problem? Also, if people who use XWhatever Mobility cards could post their glxgears benchmark or link me to a place where i can find them that would be awesome, just so I can get a feel of what kind of performance I should be getting.
Thanks!

I had an x700 in my last laptop and had it running great using the ati-drivers from portage.
Here's the video section I had for that laptop, hopefully it will help. Sorry, I can't remember the numbers I was getting on that card.

*edit: I was reading through my site and saw that I was hitting about ~3360 frames. * |

thanks for the hint, could you possibly post your xorg.conf file so I can see if there are differences. |

Something to note is that glxgears is not a good measurement of the driver. Try playing some 3D games, such as Lincity NG, or even SuperTux.
I have a brand-new nVidia GeForce Go 7300, and it only gets around 700 FPS under Xorg 7.1, but it plays games very well. _________________ [ Kawa-kun, new and improved!! ]

Hey, So I am still getting low frame rates. I tried different xorg configurations but none of them seemed to help.
The tests (and cygwin) do okay, but every ~ 3 seconds it seems like their is some kind of performance DROP. In other words, I will be running along, and every few seconds there will be momentary lag... Any ideas? (its the same with glxgears so it isn't actual game lag)
once again thanks for the help. Im trying to get this figured out before a big lan party so I don't have to drag my desktop over. |

New drivers fixed this problem. I wish ATI would put more effort into their linux drivers. |

add solved to the title, if the issue is solved!
Do you need any configs for a x700 card? |
