My current linksys wmp11 pci card is losing signal and soon to die.
I'd like to replace it / upgrade to a g (ok i dont remember if it's b or g that runs the 54mbit, but that's the one i want obviously)
The three things i'm looking for in a wireless card:
linux compatibility (so i'm limited to PCI, maybe certain chipsets..)
price point (<$50 usd if possible)
and range... actually I don't really care about range.. just the one i have now is horrible. i'm 20 feet from the router, although through walls... but i get one bar of signal, where the other computer on a usb card gets 2 bars, and that's about 50 feet away...
is there a really good chipset or card in general that just plays really nicely with linux? _________________ Sysadmin by trade, geek by choice

I like the atheros driver, so I'd recommend any of these: http://madwifi.org/wiki/Compatibility _________________ We need to shoot cops, and hang politicians. Concentrate the vision, concentrate the vision. |

Okay, just bought a new one today (my connection completely died, so i couldn't reference the atheros list, but luckily enough it's on the atheros chipset. It's a D-link DWL-G510 rev B pci card.
got it for $30 usd at radioshack on clearance.
Now comes the fun part.
I haven't the slightest clue as to how to configure the card. I know that it's an open network, ssid linksys.
I know that the card is in the same pci slot as my old card.
My old card ran one of the prism chipsets (2.5 i think...not sure though)
I have the gentoo-sources kernel, which I'd doubt would have any drivers working, although I believe I compiled support in for the atheros chipsets. My older kernel is the livecd-kernel, which I'd expect to recognize it for me to compile a new one with support.
Thanks for the advice _________________ Sysadmin by trade, geek by choice
