I have a problem for installing mayavi. Can you figure out the problem?
I downloaded mayavi-1.5-r1.ebuild (respect tcl flag) from
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50464
putted it in /usr/local/portage/app-sci/mayavi
...
ebuild mayavi-1.5-r1.ebuild digest
>>> Creating Manifest for /usr/local/portage/app-sci/mayavi
manu mayavi # emerge -pv mayavi
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "mayavi".
manu mayavi # more /etc/make.conf|grep /usr/local
PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage /usr/local/sci" |

Your problem might be related to the keywords you use.
That specific ebuild only has KEYWORDS="~x86"
If you run a stable x86 you need to add this package to /etc/portage/package.keywords.
See this page in the handbook for more details if you are not familiar with it. |

No, the problem is not that because in this case it would have returned a message saying that mayavi is masked or something like that but that's true that when it work I will need to add. I just added
app-sci/mayavi ~x86
in /etc/portage/package.keywords but no chance
Well, I solved the problem by moving mayavi there :
/usr/local/portage/sci-misc/mayavi
apparently mayavi cannot be in /usr/local/portage/app-sci/
so I have a problem with that bug : https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50464
