Hi! I seem to have broken xterm on one of my boxes. It runs fine as root, but if I try to run one as my non-root user, it fails. If i log in as root, su over to nonroot (without updating environment), and run xterm, i get...
Quote:

dan@lappy root $ xterm
Warning: Tried to connect to session manager, Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed
xterm: Error 32, errno 2: No such file or directory
Reason: get_pty: not enough ptys
Cannot chmod /dev/pts/0 to 666 currently 620: Operation not permitted

I have Unix98 PTY support and not Legacy PTY support enabled in my kernel...

Any suggestions?

Have a look at /etc/udev/permissions.d/* and /etc/security/console.perms, it looks like the permissions on your tty nodes don't allow access by your non-root user.
