Portage on Debian?

Hi,
I currently have a Debian system. I would like to get a taste of Gentoo by just installing the portage system first, to see how good it is.
Now, does somebody know if it is possible to have portage on Debian and do something like 'emerge gnome' and have it all configured? Did anyone ever tried that?
