Hi Gentooers,

I have a problem, on my desktop as well as on my notebook:

KDE, Konqueror File Manager:

When I move the mouse over a MPEG file konqueror crashes.
It tries to load the preview of the file. So I thought I have to re-emerge mpeglib, but that does not help...

Anyone has a solution for this?

The same for me here with an AMD dual core 64 bit on a fresh install.

Hi

I did a check by installing on another partition Archlinux [64bit version].
There, Konqueror does not crash when moving the mouse over any mpeg files , it is the 3.5.5 kde version.

Works for me, KDE 3.5.5 on 32 bit system.

Konqueror generates a picture in a pop-up box for certain mpeg movies, specifically those that it registers as such with size/time information generated.

I have some mpegs that konqueror does not list time/size/length info for, and most of these konqueror does not generate an image for as well.

Troubleshooting suggestions:
Try getting some different mpegs, specifically some that konqueror displays info for, and some for which it doesn't.
Does konqueror crash for both types?

Can you play the mpegs in a KDE player? (Kaboodle?)

Try going into konqueror settings->Previews and Meta Data, and deselect "file" under "local protocols". This turns of the generated image associated with movie files. Let us know if this works as a temporary fix or not.

Hi

I made it worked finally....or let's say half worked.

Code:
Settings >> Configure Konqueror >> File Association >> Video
- Left Click >> Show file in embedded viewer

- mpeg >> Embedding >> Use settings for 'video' group.

But it works just for one user...For the other one, it still carshes [with the same settings].

The setting were originally the same for both users...

By the way, if you are quite quick, you can watch your files by right-clicking.
You need to be really quick...

EDIT: Xeinsane, you are right. Unclicking file in the local protocal makes it work.
Thank you for your help.

Wow, the first time that I find other users with crashing Konqueror while mouse over a mpeg-file!
I thought I was the only one.

For me it seems the update to KDE 3.5.6 solved the problem, at least it hasn't crashed yet.
