a error appears :

Quote:
it was not possible for klibloader to load the plugin libamarok_xine-engine

error message :

/usr/lib/kde3/libamarok_xine-engine.so: undefined symbol : _ZN6Amarok9StatusBar10s_instanceE

I'm having the same trouble, getting amarok to use xine.

my error messages are in a couple of pop up boxes on startup

KLibLoader could not load the plugin:
libamarok_void-engine_plugin
Error message:
/usr/kde/3.5/lib/kde3/libamarok_void-engine_plugin.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

KLibLoader could not load the plugin:
libamarok_xine-engine
Error message:
/usr/kde/3.5/lib/kde3/libamarok_xine-engine.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I am using amarok-1.4.4-r3 without problems. It sounds like it could be an error in the build process, have you "emerge --sync"-d?

EDIT: Also, could you post an "emerge --info"?

i JUST changed it from ~x86 to x86, i had the problem trying to emerge amarok both with the ~ and without it.

the rest of my system is ~x86, i was just going to let the switch phase in.

Nothing looks wrong in your "emerge --info" that I can see. I know I've had lots of issues trying to go from unstable to stable branches before, but if it doesn't compile in either, then i have no idea.

Seems like it's specific to x86 (nothing here on amd64), and I'm not finding anything in Bugzilla about it... IMO: bug it.

No, it's not a compiling issue for me.

perhaps i should hve made a new topic

well, its been like this for a while.
it compiles fine, both with stable or unstable set (for world), but when i try and start it up i get those error messages and it defaults to helix or something as the engine

it still starts up, just with a different engine. this is a problem because it wont let me play certain types of files such as flac.

I realize the error doesn't occur during compilation. What I meant by a compile error is that the library which provides this engine interface for amarok seems to be missing--either it didn't get compiled or it was installed in the wrong place. Can you find that file anywhere on your system? It could be as simple an error as that.

EDIT: Whoops, just noticed something. The errors you guys (yagami and LinuxJoe) have aren't the same... One's missing symbols, the other the whole library.

oh, okay

well doing a few quick locate commands got me this.

Code:
tux joe # locate libamarok_void-engine_plugin.so
/usr/lib/kde3/libamarok_void-engine_plugin.so
Code:
tux joe # locate libamarok_xine-engine.so
/usr/lib/kde3/libamarok_xine-engine.so

so it seems that i have the files, amarok is just looking in the wrong place to get them.
How can I get amarok to switch locations?

Thank you very much for the help, and merry Christmas

linuxJoe ... as a quick hack , you can just symlink them.

in /usr/kde/3.5/lib/kde3 do a ln -s /usr/lib/kde3/libamarok*

i am pretty annoyed by this , and really tired of trying.

i have most things stable , gcc , glibc , binutils , qt, kdelibs , kdebase , etc are stable , amarok is stable , xine-lib is stable , and still gives me that error..

damn !

I am also having the undefined symbol error each time I try to select xine-engine. Has anyone solved this?

I had the same problem... stable amarok & xine (x86).
Maybe a bug in ebuilds?
