I just built me a new gentoo install on an amd64 box with an Nvidia geforce FX5200.
Everything was working fine, but then I noticed that I didn't have direct rendering working.
I rechecked the Nvidia install guide and I realized I had left off the step
eselect opengl set nvidia
So, I ran this step, restarted the xserver, got the Nvidia logo, got the login screen.
When I login as user, I get a solid blue/green (?) screen but it just stays there and doesn't seem to load up gnome.
If I log in as root, everything proceeds just fine. If I log in as user and select "fluxbox", everything proceeds just fine, too.
Sounds like a permissions problem.
What should I check?
By the way, direct rendering is working.
Kernel 2.6.18-gentoo-r5
Nividia driver 1.0.8776
Never mind. A reboot fixed it. |
