Yesterday I got my new computer. It's a Core 2 Duo E6600 with an Asus P5B motherboard and PC-8500 DDR2 memory.
I used KernelOfTruth's amd64 Live-CD that deals with the JMicron issues on the P5B motherboard.
The kernel I have is mm-sources-2.6.19_rc4-r1, and I used that because of the JMicron issues that 2.6.18 has.
I get the following error message:
Uhhuh. NMI received for unknown reason 00.
Do you have a strange power saving mode enabled?
Dazed and confused, but trying to continue.
Uhhuh. NMI received for unknown reason 3c
Do you have a strange power saving mode enabled?
Dazed and confused, but trying to continue.
And there it stops. I can't get passed that error message and i don't have any idea what I should do.
I tried to disable APIC and ACPI, as suggested in two other threads and on #gentoo @ freenode, but with no success.
I also tested the memory for errors with memtest86 but there was none.
So, what causes this and what can I do to get my system up and running again? |

Hello!
I had the same problem with my E6600.. Just make sure the "Old style AMD Opteron NUMA Detection" and "K8 GART IOMMU support" is removed and it should work fine

Same problem, same cpu and motherboard.
I cannot find the "K8 GART IOMMU support" entry, but found a "IOMMU" entry in its stead. I disabled that one as well, but it doesn't fix the error I get on bootup.
Using the same config on the latest ck-sources does work, but fails to find sda (due to the JMicron thing I assume).
[edit]
Of course the first thing I try after posting this works :: I removed Processor and Thermal Zone from ACPI and that seemed to have done the trick. Either that, or some bug got fixed between mm-sources-2.6.19_rc4-r1 and -r2. |
