|
|
Java has been disabled by default, but with a bit of hacking you can get it working. I've read of Opera becoming unstable if you do but I myself havn't had it crash yet after doing this.
Step 1 : Make sure that you have set your Java enviroment by
Code: | java-config --set-system/user-vm=... |
I personally emerged the sun-j2sdk-1.4.1. If you have tried in the past and have gotten an error about libXm missing from the Mosix directory during compile, see https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=42514&highlight= as to how to fix it.
Step 2 : You need to make a simlink in you /opt/opera/lib/opera/plugins directory pointing to the ns4 (or netscape4) directory in the java directory of your chosen java vm. My simlink points to
Code: | /opt/sun-j2sdk-1.4.1/jre/plugin/i386/ns4/javaplugin.so |
Note that Opera cannot use Netscape 6 or Mozilla plugins, so don't simlink to them. (ie. not the ns6 or ns610 directories).
Step 3 : You need to make a file called javapath.txt in your $HOME/.opera directory. In it put a line that points to your $JRE_HOME/lib/i386/ directory - this tells Opera where to look for the libjava.so file. My javapath.txt file has the following line in it :
Code: | /opt/sun-j2sdk-1.4.1/jre/lib/i386 |
Finally, make sure that the simlinks in the /opt/opera/lib/opera/plugins and and /opt/netscape/plugins point to the correct java versions and locations. Remove any simlinks to libjavaplugin_oji.so if they're there, they point to Netscape 6+ java plugin versions and are incompatible with Opera.
Go to the site http://www.dslreports.com/stest?loc=1 and test to see if the java applet loads (this is one of the sites that simply didn't work before I did this).
To fix Flash :
Code: | emerge netscape-flash |
Make sure that there are no duplicate simlinks or files in the /opt/opera/lib/opera/plugins or and /opt/netscape/plugins directories. Next, open Opera and go to File->Preferences. In the File types sections enable "Determine action by file extention if MIME types unerliable".
Good luck Now I just need to find out how to get Opera to use the mplayerplug-in to load damn quicktime movies
*Note : this will not screw up Mozilla if you have it installed as it's plugin directory is /usr/lib/nsbrowser/plugins. But I suggest that you check that directory anyway to make sure that any simlinks there point to the correct files. Note that Mozilla does use the Netscape 6+ java plugin, mine points to /opt/sun-j2sdk-1.4.1/jre/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so for reference. |

have you tried kmplayer (masked ~x86)? when you emerge it it will be used automatically by konqueror to stream quicktime movies, maybe it works in opera too |
