I have a server that if the connected mysql goes down, the load spikes up to 1000! At this point, sshd won't work. Is there a way to make sshd the priority in cases like this?

Thanks,
Michael

why does it spike so high? constant retries?

you could try renicing sshd, but i don't know what kind of effect that will have.

It can be a lot of things. If, let's say a query takes a long time, well, many other queries pile up, and pile up, and load average rises, and connections are opened, persistent ones anyway.

You get the idea, it can spiral.

Thanks,
Michael
