nVidia / AIGLX / Xgl Performace

Has anyone done tests comparing the performance of nVidia GL effects with AIGLX and Xgl? I use the nvidia drivers on an nvidia 6600GT to run beryl but they perform a lot slower that an ATI 7500 mobile running AIGLX and beryl.

So I'm guessing that because the nvidia drivers are provided by a company and not open source there a performance setbacks unlike AIGLX and Xgl.

I haven't run performance tests, but before the GLX_PIXMAP drivers were released by nvidia I used xgl & without xgl / native with nvidia-drivers it feels much "smoother" (is that the right word ?) / faster than with xgl
