You might try booting to the live cd, mounting your partitions, and chrooting. Then see you can update your system. Perhaps you will have to reemerge python in this state. Give it a shot. _________________ Intel 486 DX4 100

Roll in your backups (OK that was unfair, but hell true. External harddisks are cheap, good to have one for backups, also dvd burners rule fore that.) Especially when using a filesystem like reiser4 (no offense, i use it myself)
Anyways, try to find someone on irc or here or wherever who has similar systemspecs as you do (amd64 at least) and ask for a quickpkg of python and maybe portage too, then PRAY that tar isn't f*cked up, and just tar xvf the quickpkg to / . That should do it.
Or you search for amd64 python binpkg - there should be some out there.
I have x86, otherwhise I could offer you that. No idea if it plays a role if it's 64 or 32bit regarding python, but my guess is that it does. _________________ http://proaudio.tuxfamily.org/wiki - pro-audio software overlay
