Why hasn't this been announced? It looks like Portage 2 has been released. At least, I just emerged a 2.0.1 version of portage... |

So did I. I was getting these weird "circular dependency" errors, then I saw that one of the packages needed portage. I was surprised, but yes, I do think that we're not both hallucinating. |

Portage 2.0[.1] seems to be largely a bugfix release, but with a huge speed increase due to some magical coding. (Seriously, check out how fast it runs!) |

I think it is a lot more than a bug fix. From what I know, it's a complete rewrite.
And... WOW is it FAST!!
