Hello,
I'm a gentoo newbie. I've got a cute, slick'n'fast gentoo gnome desktop install. I've been emerging a whole bunch of software and all of a sudden IRC stopped connecting. No matter which client I use nor which server I connect - I always get a timeout. My first thought was - Firestarter, he's responsible for this! Well, he doesn't seem to be. If I stop firestarter service, nothing changes (it really stops - checked, all my ports are visible outside). My second thought - well, somebody (who could that be ) messed up iptable config. But flushing iptables cfg (which was automatically set up with firestarter btw) didn't do the trick. I tried to grant IRC some ports (did this for ssl and it works flawlessly), but nope - timeout Strange thing: when I run firestarter GUI I don't see IRC within my active connections (yet IRC-client is doing it's best to connect ). I've compiled the kernel according to tips on firestarter website... I also tried running firestarter wizard again... no success
Ok, I know that this stuff probably doesn't give a clue what could go wrong, but I'm only asking to point me the way. What log should I look at etc. Maybe someone had a similar issue? Dear Gentoo People, please help
What data could give you some clue? My cflags?
BTW. On Debian based systems it was adviced to stop/start init.d services with invoke.rc.d command (gurus claimed it's more safe) - should I care it's not in my humble Gentoo install? |
