Hi,

I am trying to run xfce4 for a gui on my gentoo setup in VMWare. When I run startxfce4 command I get an error:

Code:

Fatal server error:
Cannot run in framebuffer mode.  PLease specify busIDs            for all framebuffer devices

XIO:  fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X Server ":0.0" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

I am not sure if this is enough info but I am also not sure where to start as I have very little (and of the little, even less successful) experience with X....

Thanks.

Hi,

Did you build xorg-server with fbdev support?

I would make a detected xorg.conf and test it first:

Code:
Xorg -configure

ctrl+alt+backspace will back out of Xorg when you follow the instructions from the above command.
