I just finished installing gentoo basics (stage 1-11 in gentoo handbook). Everything worked well and installed everything as it said in the instructions but for some reason the bootscreen after rebooting comes corrupt. black and white and full of some hyeroglephs. please does anyone know how to fix?

See if anything here could fit your problem.
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/grub-error-guide.xml
Does the screen become corrupt after the kernel loads, or as soon as grub does?
You say that something might be going on you just can't say what. Does your hardware seem to be at work? Are you able to hear your hard drive working for example? If it does seem to be working your system might be working, and you have some graphics problem.
It's my understanding that acpi can cause the most wierd problems. I have no idea if it could be responsible for this, but try acpi=off in the grub.conf.
You can add this temporarily edit grub.conf by pressing "e" at the menu. Press "b" to "boot", once your done. |

Try commenting out the splashimage line in grub.conf. If that works, that mean you were pointing grub to the wrong location. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered
