Hi,

I have some problems with my firefox. My firefox is very very slow and when I am opening it it just shows me a blanc site called "Bon Echo" and I can't use it.
I have tried to reemerge mozilla-firefox and emerge mozilla-firefox-bin but it does not solve my problem. Is anyone familiar with this problem?

Try setting the mozbranding USE flag and reemerging firefox, that should at least give you the browser name you are expecting. Aside from the name of the browser, what exactly is not working as expected?

hi

post
    emerge -pv mozilla-firefox
, please

First do you have a Internet Connection? (ping, traceroute, ..)

Second, does any other browser work, maybe you have to set up a proxy?

Third post
Code:
emerge --info
, thanks

I am connected to the net and I do not have a proxy- I can use opera without any problems. But not firefox and I have emerged with USE mozbranding and it is still not working.

Code:

Any error messages, or do we just guess?

The mozbranding USE flag simply indicate whether or not to include the Mozilla Foundation specific trademarked branding in the installed package, if there is an actual problem (such as there appears to be in this case) toggling that flag should make no substantiative difference.

You can try to remove the user settings of firefox, deleting /home/your_name/.mozilla
Firefox will generate the new files on the next start

Since no one else mentioned it, the Bon Echo part is what I would presume would have been the testing name of firefox 2.0. No idea if that is actually it, but the Bon Echo part isn't anything. Its not a website ( as far I know. )

Bon Echo is the name of the browser if you don't have mozbranding enabled.

Nothing wrong with it. I'm using Bon Echo right now, and it's great. As for your problem, sorry, I can't help much, but I thought I'd clear that up.

I too am having problem emerging mozilla-firefox.

Some info:

Code:
# emerge -pv www-client/mozilla-firefox

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild     U ] www-client/mozilla-firefox-2.0.0.1 [2.0-r2] USE="gnome ipv6 java mozbranding -debug -filepicker% -mozdevelop -moznopango -restrict-javascript -xforms -xinerama -xprint" LINGUAS="-ar -bg -ca -cs -da -de -el -en_GB -es -es_AR -es_ES -eu -fi -fr -fy -fy_NL -ga -ga_IE -gu -gu_IN -he% -hu -it -ja -ka% -ko -ku% -lt -mk -mn -nb -nb_NO -nl -nn -nn_NO -pa% -pa_IN% -pl -pt -pt_BR -pt_PT -ru -sk -sl -sv -sv_SE -tr -zh -zh_CN -zh_TW" 0 kB

Total: 1 package (1 upgrade), Size of downloads: 0 kB

Here is the error when I try to emerge it...

I emerged mine with filepicker enabled in the use flags. Worth a try at least, right?

I'm sorry, I got nothing.

Mine worked perfectly on the first try when I emerged it. Did you check bugs.gentoo.org?

Dunno if this might help, but I think your system would run smoother and more stable if you specified your sound-card and graphics-card. As it is, you're selecting just about everything.

Here you have my "USE-settings" to show you the difference:

You can try to remove the user settings of firefox, deleting /home/your_name/.mozilla
Firefox will generate the new files on the next start

If I interpret that correctly it looks like a link error.
It is.

Any ideas?
Try MAKEOPTS="-j1" emerge -av www-client/mozilla-firefox, it might be diagnostically useful, it might even build.

I've always had -j3. I believe the comment said to make N=# of processors plus one. I have two processors.

But I'll try it and see what happens.

Which should normally work, but this is not a typical installation this is failure analysis. Some makefiles, and by extension ebuilds, are known to fail with -jn where n does not equal 1.

That is the recommendation given in the handbook, it also states "this guideline isn't always perfect".
