|
|
Hello,
my first kernels do panic, so it seems i have missed something to compile. Basically i loaded the 2006.1 live cd .config and adjusted it to my needs (mostly i compiled my hardware into the kernel and some options i always need like raid and removed most of the other drivers).
i am trying to start a softraid on both of my 160 GB SATA drives but get a kernel panic.
Code: | VFS: Cannot open root device "md3" or unknown-block(0,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0) |
raid1: /dev/md1 /boot ext2
raid1: /dev/md2 swap
raid1: /dev/md3 /root ext3
raid0: /dev/md4 /home ext3
My hardware is listed in my sig. i also use a USB logitech force feedback gamepad, a USB logitech mouse (MX518), and a USB Logitech Webcam (QuickCam Communicate STX)
the eide drive and esata drive are not attached to the system and were not during the installation and grub configuration.
Which options should i include to run my hardware successfully? I would be grateful if you could post your .config when you have a similar hardware and setup as mine.
I am a n00b so please be patient with me. _________________ Athlon XP 3200+ FSB400,

If I'm not wrong this message tells you that the kernel doesn't have a driver for your storage controller.
Make sure that you compiled the filesystem driver (ext3, ext2) in the kernel <*> and not as modules <M>.
To recompile your kernel you need to mount the partitions and chroot.
Don't forget to copy your kernel to /boot and update your boot loader. |

Here is a thread which might help: not easy to find, memory and keyword trial and error won out at last!
Mounting /dev/md0 on /newroot failed: Possible Raid problem _________________ The avatar is jorma, a "duck" from "Elephants Dream": the film and all the production materials have been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License, see orange.blender.org for details. |
