|

Hi! Is it possible to install Gentoo (with not-my-hardware-specific configuration) into vmware and then just copy this system to the another machine? Is it hard or maybe anyone tried to do that? _________________ -=[powered by Gentoo]=- |

this shouldn't be too hard.
- install gentoo inside your VM
- i recommend 1 root-partition + swap there
- don't bother with too much hardware-configuration (choose a chost... compatible to your physical machine) and tuning (e.g. X-configuration) since you probably have to do the most on your physical machine anyway
- install, update and configure as far as you wanna go
- tar/gz your root-partition to a place where you can reach it from your physical-machine
- boot you physical machine
- partition and mount your hd's
- untar/-gz to your new root
- chroot and finish all configuration steps needed, according to the gentoo handbook and inst. docs (kernel config, fstab, grub, ...)
hope, this helps a little _________________ just my 2 cents |
