I like having top and iftop, but I was wondering if there is an ifdisk or something to that effect to show what processes are using my disk. Cron jobs will start for example leaving me wondering what it is doing. It would be nice to know what is using my disk. I have been looking around for something only to not find anything. If there isn't one maybe it could be created?

There's lsof. It's not like top in that it gives you a continually updating ncurses interface, but it does have a repeat mode where it will re-run itself periodically. lsof accepts a ton of options for selecting what it displays, so you'll have to check the man page to find exactly what you want. I'm sure there are a couple other tools for this, I just don't know what they are. _________________ Thomas S. Howard |
