After installation cant ping?

Hello,

I just installed gentoo for the first time on my system - i installed dhcpcd and had problems to find the exact network support so i had to configure a few times the kernel but now i got it. is this normal that getting a network adress takes a long time? i also try to go to the internet and it seems that it works fine i get a inet adress from my provider but i can not ping an inet adress? it seems that everything is configured right? i got eth0 lo and ppp0 ?
Does anyone know what to do? shall i better try genkernel?
From the installation cd i had no problems to connect to the internet?

I think it's normal that dhcpcd takes quite some time on startup.
It takes about 10 to 15 seconds on my linux, but that could be due to my firewall

Are you getting any errors on startup?

no nothing it seems that everything works ok - and my pppoe is also normally configured like i did during installation?
