I'm fiddling around with efax trying to get it to work, and it appears to be ignoring the "-t" argument that is used to tell it to send...
Code:
jhardin@dendarii ~/tmp $ fax send -v 3605551212 test.ps
test.ps.nnn is up-to-date

Instead of hearing the modem dial out, I hear the fax negotiation greeting tones.
Forcing FCLASS to be 1 in /usr/bin/fax doesn't help.
Anybody have any ideas? Anybody else seeing this behavior? I'm reluctant to submit a bug if it's just me...

your file name is shown as 3605551212 test.ps. If there is no dot between the 2 and the word test (3605551212.test.ps) fax will probably misconstrue the command. The -t argument belongs to efax not fax.

Suggestions:

1. run the command as = efax -d /dev/ttyS0 (or correct ttyS port) -t number file file file
2. take the easy way out and install efax-gtk which makes it all automatic.

I use efax-gtk quite successfully.

That's the phone number to call and the filename to send. The filename is "test.ps"

Yeah, but the "fax" script builds the efax command line, and the log is of the efax command line.

I tried that but got segfaults and didn't pursue it. I only rarely send faxes anyway.

Regardless, it's fixed now. I contacted the author and he pointed out an error in the command line arguments somewhere I was not looking (the fax capabilities string in arg 12 was missing the "-c"), and I looked into it and found that I had an old .efaxrc file I'd forgotten about that had bogus settings. I cleaned the garbage out of that and things are working now.

I've been fiddling with efax on this box for a few years through several iterations of RH and now Gentoo. It's not too surprising that there was a lintball clogging the works.
