I have a Sony dru500A dual format burner. dvd+rw-tools (which include growisofs) works perfectly for me and can burn both +rw/+r/-rw/-r formats, I also think my initial ebuild has been refined quite a bit, and i think it maybe in portage now. dvdrtools don't work with my burner, and cdrecord+dvdpatch doesn't work either and it seems it isn't maintained. dvd+rw-tools works great |

has anyone burned a data dvd which contains files larger than 2gb? My weekly backup tarball is 3 gb |
Sure, just burn the tar file directly to disc as if it were an ISO or UDF. The error rate of DVD+RW
is very low and when I've ran a cmp its allways checked. You get the whole DVD which is about 4.4Gbytes (real) . If your tarballs get larger than 4GB, split it up over two or more discs. This may sound strange but the nature of a DVD+RW is to make a bit-for-bit copy of anything you can dump. The 'dd' function in DVD+RW-tools works great for this. Interesting the whole notion of "copy prevention" appears to be absent in this context. |

sounds great, but my dvd+rw-tools doesn't have a dd. is that a flag to one of the other tools or something? this sounds exciting, can you spell out exactly what command to use?

Has anyone gotten DVD-burning down to a science yet? There needs to be a DVD-burning how-to, it seems everyone I know is getting one. Won't be long before they come standard in computers. Well, soon there will be as many DVD-burners that come in computers as there are CD burners now.
Thanx,
Stan |

I can burn videos just fine, but not data. (well, as long as each file is less than 2gb it works) _________________ http://www.desertsol.com/~kevin/ppc |

video's is easy (also with files larger than 2gb) you just need:
mkisofs -dvd-video -o target.iso /path/to/dir
your problem might be that you don't have a key for ProDVD, then large files are unsupported for burning. You might want to find this key (it's free for non commercial use) and enter it and it'll make you able to write large files to dvd.
hope this is useful to you! |

Hi guys,
I am new here
Found this thread doing a search on burning dvd's. So far so good i have been able to burn dvd's
Here's my question,
How do i burn multiple movies to one dvd?
When i use ifoEdit to setup the files i try to give the files some sort of title identifer but it just stays at default
"Title 1 - (VobID: 1)"
So when i go and set up another movie to write it's files to the same location as the previous movie it just over writes the files.
Would creating a second VIDEO_TS folder on the dvd resolve this problem before i go and waste another dvd
cheers

Hi folks,
I use this script since half a year now and always wanted to make it public, but it is still a quick perl hack and I just don't have the time to fix the last bugs and translate the rest of the commands.
What it does is the following:
Command line:
#> cd /my/dvdrip/project/directory
#/my/dvdrip/project/directory>
#/my/dvdrip/project/directory> /usr/local/bin/vhdvdcopy

...it extracts, multiplexes, if you with requantizes and then dvd-authors an original Video-DVD now until you get the complete dvd-structure to burn on a dvd easily with k3b for example.
In the head of the script you just have to define your preferred language (de or en at the moment) to encode and the preferred language for the interface and here you go automatically...
And it's ready for YOUR language, too!
I personally hate the video-dvd menues and video-extras. I just want to copy the main movie in my perferred language onto a 4,7 GB DVD.
NO subtitles supported!!! I don't need them
I know the m2vrequantizeror is not already available as an ebuild, but if you're interested I'm sure you'll find the sources and can easily compile the package. Anyway, It also works without it in almost all cases. Which means, almost all movies fit on a 4.7 DVD without requantizing, but it's a really great tool to have!
---------------------------------------------------
If you're interested, get the simple script at
http://www.byteconcepts.de/free/download/
and right click "save as..." on vhdvdcopy or just click on it to view the code.
As I already wrote, I would like to get it already debugged (Only needed for displaying, no errors in encoding etc.!) and maybe an little more lirbrarisher, which means, I think this would be a great simple script, which could serve also as a complete commandline-tool to every GUI-appliation in every programming language.
O.K. It's not such a great tool, but Im really glad I have it now!
If you like it, don't like it, have patches, translations etc., your're welcomed to send them to me and I'm willing to implement it and distribute it, but unfortunately, I don't even have some hours at the moment to spend in finishing this little project before publishing it, so here it is... ...just a dirty piece of code
(Ah, I almost forgot: First, open the script in an editor and study the first lines, the options and parameters and play with them while making backups of your best DVDs If you know perl, I'd be glad you could take a look into the dvd-authoring code, grabbing it's output!)
