|
|
Hey, the other morning i turned on my computer and nothing happened, turned out to be a defective PSU... so i changed that, and now it has power, And when the grub bootloader comes up, i choose XP, and it starts loading for about 4 seconds and then when the blue bars start going across under the logo, it reboots itself and goes to grub again. But when i choose gentoo, it works fine. This has never happened before the PSU went bad. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I dont think its my RAM, because i go to system monitor in gnome and it says user memory: 111.2 mbs of 1003.1 mib. But im not really sure.
Any one have any ideas?
Thanks

Well, if you were in XP when the PSU failed, Windows may have corrupted itself. I don't think this has anything to do with grub. Once it hands off to XP, it's out of the picture. The fact that gentoo boots fine supports that idea. Hell, Windows may have just screwed itself up for no reason at all. _________________ Thomas S. Howard |

Ok, was XP the last OS you were in before you shut the box down? If so, had you been doing anything like updating drivers or getting security fixes, or even just installing new software? _________________ Thomas S. Howard |

Try windows' safe boot settings or restoring last working configuration by pressing f8 right after selecting windows from grub. It should open dialog where you can select boot options. |

i did that i cant get into any of those safe modes or last known configuration.. it just loops still... so i put in the XP cd and booted from that... and then go to repair, and this is what i get
Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.
Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuartion is correct. This may involve running a manufacterer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.
setup cannot continue.
which is weird that it says HD problem when gentoo is on the same drive, and works fine :S _________________ AMD 64 3000+

If your hd is connected with sata, windows xp's install cd won't recognize it without external drivers in floppy disk. Remember that windows sucks! |

lmao... no kidding.. thanks.... my guess is that when psu failed it must have corrupted windows boot sector... possible?
Windows definetnly sucks... i guess ill just reinstall.... or just not reinstall and keep that space for gentoo lol _________________ AMD 64 3000+

You could always use the bootfix option from a windows xp install cd if you think it's the boot sector. Always better to try before you install a new winxp and need to reinstall everything, saves you lots of work ^^, let us know what has become of it. _________________ Calling atheism a religion, is like calling bald a haircolour. |
