as the title states i run fluxbox and im tired of running command line to configure my wireless each time i relocate. what are some good stand alone wireless configuration programs i could use that are not bloated.

I discovered wifi-radar today. I was looking for such a program too and I really think I found what I was looking for with that tool.

If you're using wpa_supplicant, then wpa_gui should handle all the configuration and selection via a GUI.

Hmm, I would like to try out the wpa_gui, but it doesn't seem to be included with the wpa_supplicant. Do I need to emerge another package?

You'll need to have either the qt3 or qt4 USE flag active to get the gui.
