Running firefox 2.0.0.1 and I get the following crash _every_ time I visit cnn.com

Quote:
The program 'Gecko' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
(Details: serial 84 error_code 8 request_code 146 minor_code 3)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
firefox-bin exited with non-zero status (1)

help?

Brett

Just a guess but as cnn.com has flash on the home page, maybe you should try remerging flash. I've had problems like this that were flas related.

Ok, unmask the latest version by adding this to /etc/portage/package.keywords:
Code:

net-www/netscape-flash ~amd64

and this to /etc/portage/package.unmask
Code:

net-www/netscape-flash

I assume amd64 since you're using firefox-bin. Anyway, once that's done, re-emerge flash and try the cnn.com site again. A lot of sites are using flash9, so there's no way around it except to unmask the latest version. Even though it's still masked, I've yet to have any firefox crashes I can attribute to the flash9 plugin. I actually can't think of the last time I even had a firefox crash, of any sort.

actually it's a p4 and I only had to add the ~x86 keyword to get flash 9 to emerge and...

bingo! it works with no crashes. It's just really bizarre that it went from working to triggering an Xlib fault. But it works now. Thanks for the fix

Well, looks flash has just moved into testing. Time to change package.unmask.
