ok new guy here so bare with me but .... ive got smb4k working with gentoo kernel 2.6.15 but when i compiled a new kernel (2.6.18-gentoo-r6) it dosent... i can switch to the old kernel and it works fine but when switching to the new one it says : warning the printer admin option is deprecated, error smbfs filesystem not supported by the kernel please refer to the smbmnt(8) manual page, smbmnt failed: 255 ... my printer works fine so what does that have to do with it lol and how do i get smb4k to work or should i use something else to see my windows shared files?.... i can prewiew the files with smb4k on the windows machine but thats it!! any help would be appreciated in this matter.......... again im still kinda new to this and would like some good responses not ones telling me how dumb or stupid i am i, already know that lol

I rebuilt the kernel with smb support thanks for the help

Did you verify that "SMB file system support (to mount Windows shares etc.)" is present, either built in or as a module, in the new kernel? I know it is deprecated if favor of CIFS, but that is what the message is complaining about.

mabe mounting with command line works fine...i have also the message with the printer but mounting with the command line works fine
