I'm sure when I first emerge OO, the menu fonts were fine. However now, they really suck.
I ran fc-cache -fv after reading some posts here, and this is what I get.
Code:
fc-cache: "/usr/share/fonts": no such directory, skipping
fc-cache: "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts": caching, 0 fonts, 14 dirs
Can't save cache in "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts"
fc-cache: "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID": caching, 0 fonts, 0 dirs

fc-cache: failed

Mozilla is fine, and all other applications are fine.
So, really, the two problems I seem to have are:
1. Open office menu fonts suck (they're squashed together, and I would like them to be something like tahoma, verdana)
2. I can't get artwiz fonts to work in kde. From what i can tell, they do work in fluxbox. They do come up in the kde font control application, but they just appear as san-serif fonts, not how they should actually be.

When I run xftconfig, I can select artwiz fonts fine.
Anyone got any tips? I have all the paths in XF86Config, but I'm not sure what modules I should be loading in there?

The openoffice font problem is well known. You have to replace the default font by whatever you want. (arial, helvetica...)
You can do it in some menu, you have a configuration tab called "Font Replacement".I don't really remember the name of the default font sorry but a quick search in those forums should give you what you want.

I remember I had the same problem and I found the solution here :)

Thanks,
I was able to find a post that gave a little detail about this default font.
It's funny that it just stopped working, but one person had a problem where the 'Andale XXX' font used as the default was not installed.
I'm sure I had this installed before as I was using it elsewhere, perhaps there is still a problem with my font paths, X or whatever. But I'll start by fixing OO first :)
