mysql problem

hello....im triying to compile mysql for use it in a 486, but i always get an error like this:

!!!Erorr: dev-db/mysql-4.0.12 failed
!!!function econf , line 14, exitcode 1
!!!econf failed

i dont know if that is cause is a 486, or something else, i have the same problem with 3.x.x or 4.0.x please help me with this,
