Where does fuhquake keep them? Whenever I load it up, none of the keys are bound, except for escape (not even console or the scoreboard), and it never saves my settings. I have write permissions on the fuhquake directories... |

Your configs are in <quakedir>/fuhquake/configs/.
Save with cfg_save <name> at the console, load with +cfg_load <name> on your command line.
Have a look here to learn how to use the config management system. |

I'm having the same problem as the top two posters, and when I try to use cfg_save it says "couldn't write foo.cfg" |

The fuhquake-bin ebuild sets the current directory to /usr/share/games/..., which a user cannot write to.
Other Quake 1 engines to consider: joequake, darkplaces, qrack, tyrquake, fteqw.
Or look at those ebuilds to see how it's done, and write a fuhquake ebuild capable of writing to ~/.fuhquake whilst using /usr/share/games/quake1, by modifying the source code
Edit: Added fteqw.

yeah I'm aware ezquake > fuhquake, but I'm on amd64 and can't seem to get exquake to work. a version of libexpat which is a dep of ezquake has something wrong with it because programs that use it fail saying somethign about libexpat not being able to load. |

In official Portage I usually use Darkplaces. (Though PaulBredbury's got some newer releases in Bugzilla)
Though, fteqw in bugzilla is quite good, can use fteqw with Quake 1-3
(For amd64 usage.. There are tons more.. but not many work too well on amd64) |

No, it's just an engine (Technically 3 engines I guess) that gives bug-fixes/more features to Quake 1-3. It's all separate, though. |
