What kernel should I use?
Ive been using gentoo-sources.. but if youve looked.. I have had nothing but problems with my internet after install.
Should I try using another kernel? If so, which one. |

Take a look at the forum faq. There is a good discussion of the various kernels there.
The vanilla sources are probably a safe bet. But they are not optimized and are missing a number of the latest and greatest features. If you want great desktop responsiveness (or if you are into gaming) then you might want to try the gaming sources. There are many other kernels to choose from. Take a look and pick what you think is best for you. _________________ After Perl everything else is just assembly language. |

Hello Gents,
My advice is to use the Gentoo-sources, they are very optimised and there are some goodies there for you. I also need to mention the Gentoo-sources are also currently optimised for desktops.

go vanilla in this case ...it the most reliable of them all ...and i don't know if there's a kernel that specialises for server usage _________________ tea+free software+law=hook

I'm a big fan of ac-sources (seems to support my hardware better than many other kernels) |

For performance I prefer the latest 2.5 series (mm-sources) with mm patchsets or ck series (ck-sources).
For stability, I'd go with just a vanilla 2.4 series with the preempt patch. |
