no sound in user

Hi,

If and when I start my computer up from cold and log striaght in a non-root user account I get no sound. XMMS won't even play mp3's.

However if log into root first then log into the same non-root user afterwards eveything works fine.

Any ideas?

Would i have to unmute the sound card and save the volumes in the non-root account like I did in root and would this stop xmms actually play a pmp3 if the card was muted?
