Hey guys,
I'm planning on purchasing a new Thinkpad T60 laptop and I have a question that maybe someone can answer. It seems that I'm being given a choice two wireless network adapters and I can't find much information on the forums on which one is better supported in Gentoo. They are:
- Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
- ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wi-Fi wireless LAN Mini-PCIe US/EMEA/LA/ANZ
First off, what are the differences with these 2 cards? And which one of these are better supported in Gentoo? I've read the Intel PRO/Wireless has issues with the it's drivers (according to this) but apparently they are more popular (well, I've only seen people write about these) than the Thinkpad 11a/b/g Wi-Fi. Can anyone give personal experiences on either? I'd like to make an informed decision and spare myself headaches later on.
Thanks for the help! |

I'm typing this on a T60 with an ipw3945. The drivers aren't in kernel though, and are partially binary only, but they work without much of a fuss. I'm not sure what chipset the other wireless card uses, nor am I particularly familiar with it, so I'll refrain from commenting on it.
You may find my Gentoo on a ThinkPad T60 writeup useful. _________________ Game! - Where the stick is mightier than the sword! |
