|
|
Some of you might have heard this question before. To begin with let me make it clear that I have a ATI Radeon mobility 9000 graphics card and ATI have now officially stopped supporting it. They tell owners of such cards to use the ati-drivers-2.28.8. In short: I have no choice but to used the aforementioned driver. Now to the tricky part.
I managed to destroy my install and I had enough tinkering around with it to get it to work again so I reinstalled gentoo. Now, the kernel I was using was ck-sources-2.6.17 and my ATI drivers emerged with no problems at all. On newer versions of this kernel (ck-sources-2.6.19-ck2) it won't emerge at all. Here is one thread:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-527397-highlight-fglrx+kernel.html
I followed the suggestions but they didn't help. Perhaps because I'm not using the same kernel. Does anybody have any idea how to fix this or can give me any tips?
I had considered downgrading my kernel but all the ebuilds for kernels that support this version have long since disappeared.
Any help is much appreciated.

you can use version ~8.27.10 of the ati-drivers.... look here: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=161324 a ebuild that works with the latest kernels _________________ Do not meddle in the affairs of wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger. |

Thanks for tipping me off about bugs.gentoo.org. I actually didn't use the patch for version 27 as I found a patch for 28.8 and it workds nicely (link below). Probably does the same thing except in the case of version 28 the X display doesn't get scrambled when trying to switch from console to X.
