I got a problem after updating to paludis 0.22.1 yesterday..

Code:

Unhandled exception:
  * In program paludis --sync:
  * When making environment from specification '':
  * When loading paludis environment:
  * No available maker for repository type 'ebuild ' (paludis::NoSuchRepositoryTypeError)

What's up? And how can i fix it?:)

Looks like you have an extra space at the end of the "format = ebuild" line in one of your repository conf files.

@kernelOfTruth
Did you tried
Code:
paludis --regenerate-installed-cache
paludis --regenerate-installable-cache

??

Means that this package is not in world file and is not dependency of any other package. All of this means it is not used anymore and can be safely removed from system (unless your world file is broken of course).

Quote:

Means ebuild was removed from its original repository and either exists in another repository or doesn't exist at all.

All of this happens because you have paludis -r either somewhere in your hooks or in paludis alias in .bashrc (or wherever you keep your aliases).

How can I handle this?

uery error:
* In program paludis -pi mc-mp:
* When performing install action from command line:
* When executing install task:
* When adding PackageDepSpec 'app-misc/mc-mp':
* All versions of 'app-misc/mc-mp' are masked. Candidates are:

What is a repository mask? I set ~x86 in keywords.conf. Thanks.

ah ok, thanks, so I guess that isn't something to be afraid about?

btw anyone figured out how to install "experimental" versions of binutils, glibc, gcc with paludis?

glibc, for example:

I got this:

Quote:
sys-libs/glibc:
[M ] 2.2.5-r10 (2.2)
SYSTEM PROFILE
[M ] 2.3.2-r12 (2.2)
SYSTEM PROFILE
[ ] 2.3.5-r2 (2.2)
[ ] 2.3.5-r3 (2.2)
[ ] 2.3.6-r4 (2.2)
[ ] 2.3.6-r5 (2.2)
[ ] 2.4-r4 (2.2)
[ ] 2.5 (2.2)
[ ~I] 2.5-r1 (2.2)
[ ~ ] 2.5-r1 (2.2) /usr/local/portage
[ - ] 2.5.90.20070119 (2.2) /usr/local/portage
[ - ] 2.5.90.20070214 (2.2) /usr/local/portage
[ - ] 2.5.90.20070313 (2.2) /usr/local/portage
[ - ] 2.5.90.20070319 (2.2) /usr/local/portage

but only got this when installing glibc with paludis:

Quote:
* sys-libs/glibc-2.5-r1::x-portage {:2.2} [R] -build -debug -glibc-compat20 glibc-omitfp (-hardened) (-multilib) nls -nomalloccheck% nptl nptlonly -profile (-selinux)

I tried just unmasking it in keywords.conf

=x11-wm/e-9999 -*

That doesnt seem to work with paludis 0.18.1

Any help?

"*" is the new "-*" in paludis 0.16.0+...

So your line should be:
Code:

=x11-wm/e-9999 *

... got it, thanks :roll:

Ocaml packages don't build -- "ocamlc" seems to be replaced by "no" when linking. MLDonkey, for example:

Code:
ocamlc    -I src/utils/cdk  -I src/utils/lib  -I src/utils/ocamlrss  -I src/utils/xml-light  -I src/utils/net  -I tools  -I src/daemon/common  -I src/daemon/driver  -I src/utils/mp3tagui  -I src/config/unix  -I src/networks/gnutella  -I src/networks/gnutella2  -I src/networks/fasttrack  -I src/networks/fileTP  -I src/networks/bittorrent  -I src/networks/donkey -c src/daemon/driver/driverMain.ml

Ocaml itself built fine; MAKEOPTS="-j1" doesn't help; if I go into the work directory as root and do make clean; make it builds fine. Ideas?

I checked the gentoo-wiki, paludis' faq and the forums, but I am still confused.
I created a local overlay, but noticed that paludis-extras and sunrise were kept in the /usr/local/overlays directory so I moved my local overlay to their directory (/usr/local/overlays). I updated the local-overlay.conf to reflect the change in /etc/paludis/repositories/local-overlay.conf but now when I sync it gives me an error of
Code:
q: chdir to PORTDIR '/usr/local/portage/local-overlay' failed: No such file or directory

 * Writing metadata ...
   *    local-overlay: !!

Is the /usr/local/portage/ directory hard coded for local overlays, or am I doing something wrong (most likely)?

No it isn't hardcoded. I use /var/paludis/repositories generally.

And paludis-extras isn't nececarily kept in the /usr/local/overlays. You can put it anywhere you feel like, just like any other repo.

Thanks for the quick reply. How do I get rid of the chdir to PORTDIR error though?

Why does paludis see that as -media-libs?

Do you have the musicbrainz overlay? There is a problem with its package.mask. I had to remove the "-media-libs/..." line from it.

Yes, well.. I had it :) As i don't use picard anymore anyway, i removed that overlay and use in-portage tunepimp and musicbrainz now.
But d'oh.. I didn't look at the package.mask in the overlay. Thanks! (if i should need that overlay again)

Now all I miss is elog.bash setup in a fashion that this nive elogviewer works with it. Any wiki about that yet?

what do you mean with "at the package.mask in the overlay" ? where do I have to remove that line?

help, please :) (I'm a pretty noob with paludis :( )

update:

got it:

change this:

Code:
# This overlay requires tunepimp to be useful at all - reverse the mask.
-media-libs/tunepimp

to that:

Code:
# This overlay requires tunepimp to be useful at all - reverse the mask.
media-libs/tunepimp

in profiles/package.mask inside the sabayon overlay, so that was pretty the same error ...

I decided to try paludis and it seems to work well except for two things:
  1. when I try do "paludis -pi world" i get...
    Code:

    These packages will be installed:
    ...
    Anyone know why that means? (My install is 2 years old so "You may encounter some nasty error messages, especially if you're running an old install" might apply to me. Also, I don't have kde-base/kde-env-3 installed) What should I do?

  2. The message
    Code:
    paludis@1175387659: [QA] Couldn't open repo_name file in '/usr/local/portage/profiles/', falling back to a generated name (ignore this message if you have yet to sync this repository).
    is EVERYWHERE. It's very hard to ignore because it appears anytime I do something with paludis, and I can't sync because my local repository has nowhere to sync to. Is there anything I could to to make the message go away except use --log-level warn?

Thanks in advance!

 * Writing metadata ...
   *    local-overlay: !!

Is the /usr/local/portage/ directory hard coded for local overlays, or am I doing something wrong (most likely)?
Is that eix giving the error? (I see that little q:) It probably does not read paludis config, so I'd guess it reads make.conf. I'd guess you probably didn't update that...

Sure, just echo "overlay_name">/usr/local/portage/profiles/repo_name [1] ...

You could consider reading the fine manuals... at http://www.paludis.org

cheers

Thanks ashtophet!!!

I did read the manuals, but I didn't get that part :oops: I tried googling for it but I did not find anything, since not that many people use paludis...

What about my first problem? Anyone know?

I sent a message to the mailing list (paludis-user@lists.berlios.de) but for some reason the mail is not displayed. I didn't suscribe, just sent it, do i have to suscribe? (I'm a mailinglist noob).

Here is the mail:

Quote:
Hi, I'm trying to set up a programming platform for Atmel's AVR
microcontrollers series.
So far I have installed avrdude without problems, which should be able
to send the data to the micro thru one of the many programming
interfaces.

But before sending anything I need a sane environment. I'm going with
gcc and related apps (binutils, gdb, etc) which compiled fine with
emerge using the crossdev metapackage:

#crossdev -t avr

And that was enough. The problem with contrarius is that it doesn't
detect "avr" as a target... So my questions are:
1- Is there a way to set up an "avr" crossdev solution with contrarius?
2- How can I know what are the supported targets by contrarius?
3- Are there any plans to support AVR? (Is there is any interest I
could test and report back)

Additionally, the way that the crossdev metapackage does things is
using the "normal" ebuilds (i.e. those found on the official tree)
thru a wrapper (crossdev -t whatever) that sets some variables related
to the target. So:
4- Did someone try to modify this wrapper to make it work with paludis?

Regards.

;) From http://www.paludis.org/migration.html in fine

You may encounter some nasty error messages, especially if you're running an old install and have some packages that were installed a very long time ago with a broken Portage release. In most cases, removing the VDB entry by hand and then immediately reinstalling the same version of the package using Paludis (or even a recent Portage) will suffice.

I read that, I actually quoted it myself:

However, I do not know how to clean the VDB entry :( Where's the VDB and what entry do I clean?
