Binaries disappearing

Hi guys, my computer is setup as the following:
Part 1 - 1.5gig Win2k
Part 2 - 8.5gig Linux
Part 3 - 150meg Linux Swap

I had gentoo installed just great with kde and kdm on startup. I ran GNU's parted and tried to resize my windows partition to be larger. Parted showed that it moved files, but it not appear that the partition table was ever changed. This is checked by running fdisk after reboot.

Now, I am missing many binaries such as "locate", "which" etc etc. Using find, it appears they are not on the partition at all.

Did it move files but did not resize the partition?
