Hi,

I have a socket 939 AMD Athlon X2 and the CPU fans are running 100% - how can I get them to throttle back when the comp is quiet?

You have to activate the AMD Cool'N'Quiet feature in the bios and, I think, somewhere in the kernel.

Relevant kernel part is: CPU Freq. scaling. Check out the Gentoo Powernow howto. You also need to use conservative, powersave or ondemand governor
