Hi... I have a problem... First I had a 2940U2W adaptec to which was attached a SCSI

Quantum 10K Atlas. As this Quantum HDD has a unique HD68pin connector, I have bought thru

ebay an adapter 50/68pin to HD68. And with standard cable plugged to the 68pin

fast/ultra-SE connector of the board everything worked. But As I wish to migrate to Vista,

I changed controller and found a 29160N. Now all the peripherals (CD/DVD) attached to the

50pin connector work perfectly, but I can't connect the ATLAS HDD. As I plug it in the

LVD/SE connector (29160 has not a 68pin FASTULTRA/SE) the controller hangs. I doesnt even

try to scan the devices. It hangs and after some minutes returns a "time out" message. I

tried everything, even to force the SE mode on the HDD (even if it's labeled LVD/SE and

should work with that connector!) I tried to shorts the jumpers SE-TE and/or LVD/SE on the

29160N board but I had NO results. Of course the chain is terminated because the cable

itself has a termination. I don't know what to do... any suggestions???

Thanks for any help you may give....

Ok so you now have one of these:

http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/support/scsi/u160/ASC-29160N/

you have some peripherals such as cd-rom etc on the internal 50 pin ultra scsi connector. Are you trying to add the Atlas to the internal 68 pin scsi connector after taking off the 50/68 pin adapter that you had been using with the old controller? Are you trying to attach something to the external 50 pin connector? Remember that you can only use 2 of the 3 connectors at a time. That has always been true of Adaptecs.
