Hi
Just bought a brand new SATA Controller ST lab 3512A that I want to use with my 2 SATA drives ( 160GB Maxtor and 80 GB Seagate).
Problem is that grub wont boot if Seagate drive is attached to controller. Both drives are just storage drives and NONE of
system files or system are on it. If I attach just Maxtor 160GB drive grub boots fine but as I said if I try to attach Seagate alone or with
Maxtor Grub is not booting at all. I updated bios on mobo so thats in place and bios on controller is lates too so I am fresh out of ideas.
My question is what can I do to make grub boot when both drives are attached???
PS
Both drives work on other machines. |

It looks like I have a similar problem.
I've got a working Gentoo installation on an IDE drive. This evening, I added a SATA Controller (VT6421A) and connected a SATA drive.
When Grubs tries to load, it doesn't go further than the message "Loading stage 1.5" and that's all.
I've booted with a LiveCd and did the grub setup steps again (root, setup) but nothing changed.
If I disconnect the SATA drive, it boots fine again.
Same happens with Lilo.
Any help is welcome. |

After few days off tinkering with this I decided to return controller to the shop.
I am still not sure if it was the bios on mobo or just a defect card. |
