beagle - too many open files [SOLVED]

Hi all. I thought I would try beagle but it's not so good.
When I try to build the index (doing it quickly - with
the exercise_the_dog thing) beagled works away for
a while and then quits indexing, I see this error message:

sorry to reply to myself. I made the mistake of emerging the
*stable* version. When I upgraded to the latest masked
version of beagle, it started to work properly ... makes you
wonder
