Blank Console/VT When Switching to VT from X

My system will display boot messages and the console login prompt then start X.

I can use X/KDE for a few hours or days and I can switch over to a VT and login to run something at the console. However, every once in a while I get blank VTs when switching to then. I have not nailed it down to a specific period of time passing before this occurs but it does seem random.

In the past, I've been able to ssh into the machine from another one then restart XDM and it would be fine. This does not appear to work anymore.

My system board has a Nvidia GeForce2 chip and I am using the legacy Nvidia drivers (1.0.7184). Other posts have mentioned the framebuffer as being the culprit. I have the frambuffer and VGA 16-color support compiled as modules, however, they are not currently loaded so the framebuffer should not be the issue.

Has anyone else experienced this or similar issues?
