After I succesfully installed gentoo, and conky, and fluxbox...I notice that when I boot my gentoo, my hard disk is blinking and there is an I/O activity in my HD...after about 5 minutes, it is gone. What is gentoo doing? This happens everytime I boot my gentoo...
Also, i used acpi=off because it hang on my Thinkpad R40e. Is there a recent solution to this ACPI thing? |

At what point does the hang occur?
WRT the Thinkpad. There's a great Thinkpad-specific Linux website called Thinkwiki which has loads of information on all things Linuxy and Thinkpady. Your model is dealt with here. It looks like there's even an entry on IBM-ACPI.
